The Ola Ka ’Ilima Artspace Lofts is a low-rise mixed-use non-profit arts complex currently under construction in central Kakaako. The project will include 84 leasable units, 17,000 square feet of community and green space and 4,500 square feet of ground floor space reserved for the PAI Arts & Culture Center (for Native Hawaiian dancers, musicians, visual artists, and cultural practitioners.
This one of a kind project is being developed by Artspace Projects, Inc., a nonprofit real estate developer specializing in creating, owning and operating affordable spaces for artists and creative businesses. Artspace is the nations leading real estate developer for the arts and has over 50 projects across 20 different states.
The project is designed with affordability in mind. The units will be priced at 30%, 50%, and 60% of the area median income and artists must apply through an art selection committee. There will be 50 one-bedroom, 30 two-bedroom and 4 three-bedroom apartments available for those who meet the criteria.
Residential units will feature high ceilings, large windows, durable surfaces all designed to accommodate a wide range of creative activities. They will be larger than the typical affordable housing units with floor plans featuring 700 sf one-bedrooms, 850 sf two-bedrooms, and 1270 sf three-bedroom townhouses.
