The Collection, described as an “Urban Community”, is a unique 465-unit mixed-use residential complex which features a high-rise tower, mid-rise building, multi-story town homes and commercial spaces for restaurants and shops.
The $200-million-dollar project was completed in 2016 by Alexander & Baldwin, whose other notable projects include Waihonua. The building was designed by Design Partners Inc. (Hawaii based) and Pappageorge Haymes (Chicago based). The interior design was done by Philpotts Interiors.
The Collection was one of the first projects to be completed in the west end of Kakaako and has anchored the redevelopment in that immediate area.
The Collection features a solid amenity package which have become the standard for modern Honolulu condos:
Fitness center with Yoga/Pilates/Dance studio
Party room with full kitchen
Entertainment room with Karaoke
Surboard/bike storage
Secured entry
BBQ Pavillions
Pool with hot tub and cabanas
Kids play area and dog run
Outdoor theater
On-site Resident Manager
The Tower is comprised of 397 one (579 -580 sf), two (870 -1,037 sf), and three bedrooms (1,133 – 1,219 sf). A typical floor is made up of 10 units and serviced by 4 elevators.
The residences feature floor-to-ceiling glass and have decently sized lanais with sliding glass doors to enjoy the weather and views. The flooring is tiled in the entry-ways and kitchen and carpeted in the living rooms and bedrooms.
Kitchens come with quartz countertops and Bosch stainless steel appliances. 2 bedrooms and up have walk-in closets as well.
Residents can enjoy Ocean, Diamond Head, Mountain and Harbor views depending on where your unit is located. The best views are located on the Diamond Head and Ocean side. Although the building is set back from the ocean a bit, there is minimal obstruction allowing for really great ocean views. If you are buying solely for view in this building though, there should be some concern for the future as high-rises continue to be developed in this area.
The Collection lies in the west end of Kakaako directly adjacent to Restaurant Row and Downtown Honolulu. It takes up 1 whole city block bound by Ala Moana Boulevard, Auahi, South and Keawe Streets.
While the area has not been historically attractive for retail, things are really starting to change now as development continues. Salt at Kakaako lies next door and features a mix of 43 shops, restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Down to Earth, which just opened as well, provides a healthy, organic grocery for the area. This area will only continue to improve.
