Overview

Hawaiki Tower is a mixed-use luxury high rise tower located in the Ala Moana “superblock” directly adjacent to the Ala Moana Shopping Center, commonly referred to as “the KHON building”.

Completed in 1999, this was the second development by Nauru Phosphate Royalties (Nauru Tower) and was designed by internationally recognized architect Barry Patten of Australia in collaboration with GYA Architects, Inc. (of Hawaii) and built by the Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company.

Hawaiki is 46 stories tall and features 417 residential units and 8 commercial units which famously includes KHON-TV’s studio on the ground floor. Hawaiki’s contemporary architecture, well-maintaned common areas and excellent location have made it a popular building for almost 2 decades.


Amenities

A residential entrance ramp via Waimanu street leads to guest parking, walking gardens and the 3rd floor lobby. Like its predecessor (Nauru Tower), Hawaiki has a grandiose 3 story glass atrium style lobby which makes for a beautiful sense of arrival.

The recreation deck hosts a nice range of amenities incuding outdoor bbq/dining areas, large heated pool with Jacuzzi, tennis court and kids playground.

There is a “Winter Garden” on the 35th floor for residents to enjoy west facing views in a semi-enclosed lanai space. This is a unique amenity you wont find in most condos.

Residences

The building offers larger than average 1, 2 and 3 bedroom plans from floors 5-44. 3 Bedroom duplex Penthouse Units are located on floors 45-46.

On a typical floor, there are 11 units which are serviced by 6 elevators (3 on each wing). The 1 bedrooms are 842 SF, 2 bedrooms range from 1,018-1,618 SF, 3 bedrooms are 2,126-2,369SF.

Although many of the units have been upgraded, original finishes included marble & granite countertops, designer cabinetry, cast iron porcelain bathtubs. For flooring there are tiled floors in kitchen, entry and bathrooms and carpeting in living and bedroom areas. Kitchens have Sub-Zero and Gaggenau appliances.

Unlike most of its “superblock” condo neighbors, most units do not have lanais or floor to ceiling glass except for higher floor units. Some floorplans have columns which run through living areas which can make furnishing difficult.

Views

Hawaiki has a Diamond Head/Ewa orientation. The better Ocean/Park views are undoubtedly on the Diamond Head side. Due to its surroundings, views on the Ewa side are mainly composed of neighboring condos and their amenity decks.

Location

Hawaiki Tower has an excellent location, especially due to the Ala Moana Ewa Wing expansion. Foodland Farms is directly across the street for fresh groceries. Ala Moana Beach Park is a short 5 minute walk for easy beach access. In the other direction, Ward Village is a 5-7 minute walk. Located on the ground floor is a 24/7 tea shop and restaurant which is popular among residents. There is also a Biki station conveniently located right at the base of the building, if biking is a preference. For drivers, Ala Moana Blvd and Piikoi street gives you easy access to either Nimitz or H1 highways.
