Nauru Tower, is a mixed-use luxury high-rise tower and one of the first luxury towers to be built in the Ala Moana “suberblock”. The building sits 44 stories tall, houses 314 units and 8 elevators.
The $90 million project was completed in 1990 by Nauru Phosphate Royalties Development Inc. (other projects include Hawaiki) and was designed in collaboration by Architects Hawaii, Ltd and Martin and Chock.
The building architecture is no doubt unique as the single-loaded building (all units are front facing) resembles a half-circle shape and was designed to ensure all units have sweeping unobstructed ocean views.
A famous feature of Nauru has always been it’s picturesque 3-story lobby with high vaulted floor to ceiling glass, grand columns and exquisite stone flooring. It is considered one of the finest of any condominiums on the islands.
On the 5th floor there is a large 14,000 sf heated swimming pool, with two Jacuzzis. In 2015 the deck was completely resurfaced with a quartzite surface, and furnished with new pool-side furniture and cabana.
The 7th floor picnic deck is to the rear of the building and was also upgraded in 2015 with new BBQ equipment, cabanas and a resurfaced tennis court.
There is however a lack of fitness center on premise which is important to note for those with fitness in their daily routine.
There are 8 residences per floor that consist of two 1-bedrooms (850 sf) and six 2-bedrooms (1,220 – 1,892 sf). Floors 43 and 44 hold the larger penthouse units and range in size from 2,380 – 3,660 sf.
Most units come with lanais, walk-in closets, floor to ceiling glass. There are many upgraded units in Nauru as it was originally built in 1990 so finishes can vary from hardwood and carpet. Kitchens originally featured black granite countertops and Sub-Zero appliances.
Due to the shape of the building (half-circle) some unit layouts can be a bit awkward to furnish. However, the average square footage for 1 and 2 bedrooms are larger than you will find in most buildings, so space is ample.
Nauru has gorgeous unobstructed ocean views and arguably the finest in Kakaako. It’s location is at the forefront of the superblock and single-loaded design allows for most units to have stunning park/ocean/sunset views. 1350 Ala Moana to the left and Hokua to the right will be visible to units on either end but is minimal.
Nauru sits on an unbeatable eighteen-acre parcel of prime urban Kakaako location. 5 minute walk to Ala Moana Center, 5 minute walk to Ward Village Shops for shopping. Foodland Farms and Whole Foods are walkable for fresh groceries. And Ala Moana Beach Park sits at your literal door step for beach and recreation.
