One Ala Moana is a 23-story, 205-unit luxury condominium tower in Honolulu, Hawaii that capitalizes on a highly desirable location atop the Ala Moana Shopping Center, one of the most profitable shopping malls in the United States and largest in Hawaii.
The $265 million ultra-luxury residential condominium was completed in 2014 by HHMK Development, a collaboration between The MacNaughton Group, The Kobayashi Group and Howard Hughes Corp.
There was much hype for this building when it was first announced in December 2012 as it signified the first of a new wave of construction in Honolulu post-recession and led to a sell-out of all 206 units within 2 days at an average price of $1.6 million.
The building was designed by Benjamin Woo Architects (locally based) and Solomon Cordwell Buenze (Chicago and SF based). The interior was done by Philpotts Interiors (locally based).
All of the amenities are located on the 6th floor in a variety of indoor/outdoor spaces and feature all the resort-style amenities one can expect from a Kobayashi or Howard Hughes development.
Indoor amenities include:
Private Dining (Party Room) with Kitchen
Fitness Center with Yoga/Pilates studio
Guest Suites for friends and family
A beautiful 80,000 sf recreation deck house the outdoor amenities which include:
The building is split into two wings, Ewa Tower and Diamond Head Tower, and are serviced by 4 elevators total, 2 in each wing. This was done purposefully to limit each floor to 7 units each and increase privacy amongst residents.
On floors 7-19, both wings are made up of two 1-bedrooms (761-877sf), four 2-bedrooms (1,159-1,461sf) and one 3-bedroom (1,791sf) residences. Penthouse levels 20-22 hold four 3-bedrooms (1,791 – 2,651 sf).
All residences feature 9’ high ceilings (8’ is the standard in Honolulu), floor-to-ceiling glass and sliding glass doors (instead of lanais). Finishes include hardwood flooring for entry, living and kitchen areas, quartz countertops and Studio Becker cabinetry.
Kitchens come with a mix of Sub-Zero, Wolf and Miele appliances. Larger units come with wine coolers.
The buildings orientation allows for most units 00-10 to enjoy ocean views. Units 11-15 will have a mountain/city view. There are office buildings which surround One Ala Moana and so you will be directly across from another building if on the edges of the building.
Another issue is on the lower levels which face the ocean as you will see the top of the parking lot of Ala Moana which interferes with Ala Moana Park/Ocean views.
For those who don't want to be in the middle of a redeveloping area, this would be a better choice than Kakaako.
Still, this is a very convenient location as there is plenty of shopping (Ala Moana), grocery stores (Foodland Farms, Don Quixote, Walgreens) within walking distance. Waikiki and Ala Moana Beach Park are also minutes away for quick beach access.
