Waihonua, completed in 2015, is the most recent (and last) addition to the Ala Moana “superblock” cluster of high-rise condominiums directly adjacent to the new Ewa wing of the Ala Moana Shopping Center.
It was built by Alexander & Baldwin Properties and designed by Design Partners Incorporated. The interior design was done by Philpotts Interiors.
The building is 43 stories tall and contains 345 residences with a mix of 1,2 and 3 bedrooms.
The architecture is described by the developer as “the spirit of the Hawaiian Islands meets contemporary design. It has that exquisite balance of urban architecture with a high-tech look and appearance of blending into the Hawaiian sky.”
The beautifully designed lobby is located on the ground floor and features an onsite resident manager, 24-hour front desk concierge, fob-secured elevator, mailroom and surfboard storage. There are also 15 guest parking stalls.
On the 5th floor lies a fitness center with various cardio and weight equipment, a yoga/dance studio, an impressive movie theater, lounge room and 2 guest suites for visiting friends or family.
The recreation deck is located on the 6th floor and has a large infinity edge pool, a separate Jacuzzi, poolside cabanas, 4 BBQ pavilions available for reservation, 2 extra “first-come first-serve” BBQ’s and a large party room with a full kitchen.
Amenities include:
Infinity Pool
BBQ
Hot Tub
Gym
Yoga Studio
Theater
Lounge
Party/Social Room
Guest Suites
A typical floor (7-40) contains nine residences. Two 1-bedrooms (647-659 sf), Five 2-bedrooms (1,002 – 1069 sf) and Two 3-bedrooms (1,227 sf). There are penthouse levels with larger 3 bedroom units as well.
The residences feature hardwood floors, carpeted bedrooms, granite countertops, Bosch appliances, floor to ceiling glass windows. All units come with full size stack washer/dryer and also comes prewired for high speed internet.
A great feature is the central water heating system. This makes sure you won’t run out of hot water for those with multiple residents.
Unfortunately, lanais are only featured on the Ocean facing units.
Unfortunately, due to the proximity of the other superblock condos, ocean views are limited to only a few stacks on the ocean facing side. If you like Mauka/mountain views, Waihonua has excellent views on the backside which are unobstructed.
The central location of Waihonua is superb, truly making this a walker’s paradise. To the east of the building lies The Ewa wing of Ala Moana Center which features Nordstrom, Foodland Farms, and Shirokiya within a 5 minute walk. Ala Moana Beach park is across the street and a 10-minute walk. To the west you can also walk to Ward Village Shops which now feature the brand new Whole Foods and Consolidated Ward Theaters for movie goers. H-1 Highway is easily accessible by Piikoi Street, and Ala Moana Blvd is only a few turns away as well.
